Pediatrics, a core service since the inception of the Health Center, serves patients from newborn to young adults up to age 21 at the pediatric site in Chinatown and Flushing, New York. The team has expanded its services beyond well-care to include chronic and specialty care including a part-time allergist, cardiologist, orthopedist, and infectious disease specialist. The department also opened a developmental clinic and adolescent clinic to target special issues, such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Family Planning concerns, that are not currently addressed in the community. The department has incorporated unique projects such as an early child literacy program into basic primary care to promote overall well-being in patients and has participated in a national Asthma Collaborative to improve clinical outcomes. Pediatrics established the Teen Resource Center (TRC) in the fall of 2003 as a way to provide information and support to the Asian American adolescent population through educational materials, outreach events, workshops and referrals. The pediatric team strives to provide comprehensive health care and is continually adapting to meet the needs of the community.
