About the Coalition
The Chinese American Healthy Heart Coalition was established in 2000. In just a few short years the Coalition has grown to include over 20 member organizations representing the Chinese American community. The partnership is composed of health care organizations, social service agencies, private business groups and other non-profit organizations.
About the Steering Committee
The Steering Committee members of the Coalition include Bellevue Hospital Center, Center for the Study of Asian American Health at NYU School of Medicine, Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, Chinese American Planning Council, Confucius Pharmacy, New York Downtown Hospital Chinese Community Partnership for Health, Sally W. Wong (MS, RD, CDN) and Warren W. Chin (MD, FACC).
Goal
The goal of the Coalition is to develop and implement a comprehensive, culturally and linguistically appropriate community-based intervention to increase the awareness of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The program also aims to promote heart healthy habits and practices to ultimately improve the quality of life in the Chinese American community. Funding from the USDHHS -Office of Minority Health and NYSDOH-Office of Minority Health has been awarded to the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center to support the coalition's healthy heart activities.
