| In 2002, the Chinese-American Healthy Heart Coalition surveyed 20 restaurants and 16 bakeries in New York City's Chinatown. The results indicated a lack of healthy food options such as brown rice, low-fat or low-salt dishes, and low-fat or low-sugar beverages. The Coalition responded by launching the "Eat Well For Your Heart" campaign which involves increasing community awareness of healthy eating and encouraging local restaurants and bakeries to provide healthier food options. The goals are to educate the public about healthy eating and how to be heart healthy, and to increase the availability of healthier food choices in the community. |

Healthy eating has gotten a lot easier. You will now find healthier food options at the 11 partnering "Eat Well for Your Heart" eateries in Manhattan's Chinatown and Flushing, Queens. During your next visit at a participating eatery, you can ask for less oil, less salt, or other modifications to your dish. You can find healthier substitutes such as brown rice and low-fat milk. You can order products made with whole grains. All you have to do is ask.
The staff at the participating eateries will try their best to accommodate your requests for healthier options. This webpage will give you more information about the eateries and the types of healthier food options they provide. Check the links for useful guidelines on how to dine out the healthy way and other helpful tips. Enjoy dining out with friends and family while keeping your heart healthy.
