In March 2005, the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center launched the “B” Healthy Model Care Program in collaboration with the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) and Bristol-Myers Squibb to address the epidemic of hepatitis B in the Asian American community. The program is designed to reduce barriers to care and provide community education and support for hepatitis B patients and their families. Culturally and linguistically-appropriate health education brochures, videos, and radio programs will be developed for the program, as well as patient and family support groups. Continuing medical education seminars will also be offered to local providers to increase awareness of hepatitis B in the Asian American community and to inform them of the latest screening, vaccination, and treatment options.
