October is Liver Cancer Awareness Month

Hepatitis B is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis B virus. The hepatitis B virus causes inflammation of the liver, which if left unmonitored, could lead to serious health problems. Chronic hepatitis B is a leading cause of liver cancer in the United States.

Hepatitis B is common in Asian communities. Approximately 1 in 12 Asian Americans has hepatitis B, and as many as 2 in 3 people do not know they have it because there are no visible symptoms. As a result, hepatitis B is sometimes called a “silent killer.” Talk to your doctor about getting tested for hepatitis B.

The Charles B. Wang Community Health Center offers comprehensive hepatitis B care, including free education, screening, vaccinations, disease monitoring, and other related services at reduced cost.
