Chinatown Health Clinic Foundation to Honor Renowned AIDS Researcher & Virologist Dr. David Ho at 2023 Annual Dinner
The Chinatown Health Clinic Foundation (CHCF) will host its 2023 Gala Dinner on Thursday, May 18, 2023. The annual celebration, the Foundation’s primary fundraising event, will be held at Tribeca 360° (10 Desbrosses St, New York, NY 10013) in Downtown Manhattan, with a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.
“The Chinatown Health Clinic Foundation is pleased to provide funding and support for community-based healthcare services, primarily at the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, which provides care to more than 55,000 patients each year, said CHCF President Dr. Raymond Fong. “Thanks in no small part to our supporters, this care is provided to anyone who needs it, regardless of their immigration history, their ability to pay, or the language they speak.”
This year, the Foundation will be honoring renowned AIDS researcher, physician, and virologist Dr. David Ho. As head of the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center at Columbia University, Dr. Ho’s groundbreaking therapies transformed AIDS from a certain death sentence to a manageable disease, saving millions of lives. In recognition of this groundbreaking achievement, he was named Time magazine’s Man of the Year in 1996, the first physician to receive the honor. A long-time friend of the Foundation, and an immigrant himself Dr. Ho strongly believes in its mission to improve access to quality healthcare for underserved Asian Americans and other vulnerable populations.
In addition, Dr. Ashwin Vasan, the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will deliver special remarks at the Annual Gala. Dr. Vasan is a primary care physician, epidemiologist, and public health expert with nearly 20 years of experience working to improve physical and mental health, social welfare and public policy for marginalized populations here in New York City, nationally and globally. Before his appointment as Commissioner of Health for New York City, Dr. Vasan served as the founding Executive Director of the Health Access Equity Unit at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which focused on the intersection of clinical and social services for the care of people involved in the justice system and other vulnerable populations.
The Gala will recognize the impressive work of the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center (CBWCHC). Guests from the community, business, philanthropy, and government will attend the event, which receives coverage from major community and statewide media outlets.
